Explorers are a part of the Boy Scouts of America under their Learning for Life Program. Explorers must be 16-21 years old and must have completed the 8th grade. They have to maintain a 2.5 GPA and commit to volunteering 16 hours per month. Their training is on the first, third, and fifth Tuesday of the month. There are two Explorer Academies per year. It is mandatory to attend one of the academies. They help at community events such as Hoopfest, Bloomsday, Lilac Parade, and others. When Explorers reach a certain level of proficiency they are allowed to ride with an officer on patrol.
We have those interested attend two trainings to see if they would like being an Explorer. Call Volunteer Services at 509.363.8283 to schedule attending some trainings. After you attend the trainings there is an Explorer packet online to print out and bring the original to Volunteer Services at the Public Safety Building, W. 1100 Mallon, Spokane, WA. 99260
