Construction season will begin soon. One of the first projects out of the gate this year will be the Francis Avenue rehabilitation project that is part of the 10-year Street Bond. This project will rehabilitate Francis Avenue from Division to Crestline beginning in mid-March. There are 85 working days assigned for the completion of this project.
The Greater Hillyard Business Association (GHBA) held a guest speaker series on Feb. 13 during which City Design Engineer John Saywers presented the project details to the local businesses affected by the construction.
Another public meeting will be held by the City on Feb. 27 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Arlington Elementary (6363 North Smith Street). The contractor, Shamrock, which was awarded the work, will also speak on project details.
Community engagement is an important aspect of all City construction. Weekly meetings during construction are held for businesses and residents along the project. It gives them an ongoing forum with the City and contractor team to voice their needs, express concerns and receive current information. We highly encourage public involvement throughout the duration of the project.
The Francis Avenue project is composed of the following work:
As part of the Street Bond, the project is eligible for rehabilitation between the existing curbs. The new asphalt, an 8-inch HMA over 8 feet of crushed surface with a slight cross slope of 3 percent to help with drainage, will better meet the traffic demands on Francis Avenue.
